Well... okay, to be totally honest the camping wasn't exactly kinky, but naked/semi-naked options made the camping more fun.
I loved the Dark Ages Faire last year and the year before. It really has become my kinky event of the summer. It combines my three favorite things: Renaissance festivals, camping, and kinkiness. What could be better than that? It's at a private camping site, so we get to go naked or semi-naked or decked out in Renaissance garb ... whichever we prefer all weekend long. There's a royal feast on Saturday night too and some games and things this year. Steffie and I decided to volunteer to help with registration on Saturday, so we even got a partial discount on the tickets this year. That was really nice too since we have several other tickets to buy this summer.
This year should have been sidelined as being The Invasion of the Barbarian Horde cause we really did invade en masse. We didn't just camp and vend, we set up our own little Barbarian village. We had three canopies and three sleeping tents between the seven of us along with all the leather shop and vending stuff and a make-shift kitchen. Porkchop made his own huge grill and spit to fit above his portable fire pits. He cooked a whole leg of pork on it Saturday. It was so yummy!
It rained a bit as we were setting up camp on friday, but doesn't it always raining when you are trying to set up camp? It stopped just as we were finishing, so it wasn't bad. Saturday during the day was gorgeous too. The only down side was the plethra of mosquitos around the camping area. They were eating us alive. Thank goodness for good bug spray and foggers! And lots of 50 sunblock. We spent the day visiting and cooking, vending and doing registration, hanging out with friends. It was good.
We finished up our assigned "jobs" just in time to get dressed for dinner and have the royal feast. Um, feast, not so impressed with for a few different reasons. After my discounts, I only paid 10 bucks for my ticket, so I'm not going to complain too much publicly about it. If I'd paid full price, I would have a major bitch though. We did come fully prepared to feed ourselves and half the rest of the encampment though, so we didn't go hungry in the end.
Just as the feast ended and they declared the dungeons open for the evening, a huge storm blew in from nowhere! One minute it was sunny, and the next the trees were snapping back and forth in the wind and rain and it was really dark outside. I'm use to tornados and bad thunderstorms growing up where I did. I've slept through a few tornados overhead. This made me nervous though. There wasn't really a great place out there for shelter if it turned out to be something dangerous. We were in tents and canopies. We saw a few of the canopies go cartwheeling across the campsite too. Luckily ours was staked down with railroad stakes. That made me feel much better know ours wasn't going anywhere unless it go really really bad.
Needless to say, it did not set the mood for anything kinky to happen though. I had been really looking forward to playing Saturday night. It's been since the DADG party in April since Steffie and I have played. Everything has been so busy here and we really don't have a good place at home to play. The very thin walls and the landlord living upstairs makes that difficult prospect even though we do have a couple places that would make good, temporary play spaces. Plus, the last several times we've played something has caused them to be cut short wether it was the really loud/distracting noise or the temporature (this has been a huge problem). It's hard to have a long, satisfying scene when you're so cold you're shivering. We were both really looking forward to getting some time in the dungeon at Dark Ages, but it didn't happen.
I let it get to me more than I should. It was a bad week at work, and a busy week at home rushing around trying to get things ready for the Faire. The ever multiplying clutter at home has been making me a bit stir crazy too ( I really need to work on that, but with all the sewing projects going, I know it's pointless to try and do a full cleaning until they are done). I was stressing about getting the projects done and never did get a chance to even start on my stuff that I need for this coming weekend. All that along with a serious need to work out some stress with a good, hard night of play compounded all together and made not getting to scene at all even more disappointing for me. It was an overreaction to the situation, and I totally even knew it at the time too. Once the dam breaks though, it's hard to push it all aside. A bit overwhelming.
Rae offered her place to come out and play sometime, and I'm really grateful for that. We may have to take her up on it before too long. At least we know her and Pork Chop won't be freaking out at the sounds coming from downstairs. lol
Overall, the weekend was still really good despite the few downsides. It was even better if I just choose to look at it as a fun camping trip with friends. That was excellent. I always enjoy spending time with the tribe esp when it's camping stuff and being outdoors. Not at all kinky really, but *shrugs* we create our own kinkiness often enough. It's not like we're that deprived.
Here's to hoping that I get the rest of my sewing done tomorrow and/or Saturday sometime and the MSDB party turns out to be a really good night.
